The answer is no. But...

There are plenty of times throughout the day where two photographers come in handy.

Getting ready

With two photographers on your wedding day, you can both get pictures of the hour or so before your ceremony which makes a lovely start to your wedding album. You both get to see how the other spent that time. Like below where Todd went to the pub before the church and ended up riding a horse, who was also called Todd! You can see more of Rachel and Todd's Kent wedding here. Instead of rushing between you both, we can take our time, with one photographer getting to the ceremony location a little earlier to capture the guests arriving.

The ceremony

With two photographers at your wedding you will receive so many more images from different angles. For this outdoor wedding at Cowdray House, I positioned myself discreetly at the front in order to capture the bride and groom up close, while my second photographer was positioned at the back and was able to take beautiful wide shots like the one below. This mixture of more wide, contextual photos alongside the tighter in images, come together to provide you with a fuller story of your day.

Reception

Having a second photographer at your wedding really comes in handy during the reception, especially when your guest numbers are over 80. We can both discreetly roam capturing all those lovely candid shots of your guests. With two of us, we can document spontaneous moments happening in different locations. It also means that when it comes time to photograph your family group shots, one of us can either carry on capturing guests or if you need a little more help rounding up the troops, we have one photographer in position taking the photos and the other helping to gather and position guests. This helps to ensure family group shots don't take up to much time and you can get back to your guests. When you look through your album, you will have a fantastic record of your reception, even the moments that you weren't part of.

Speeches

Our aim is always to be as discreet as possible so during your speeches, one of us will position ourselves crouched down near your table, ready to capture all those lovely reactions from you and your closest family and friends, while the other of us will be photographing the speaker and the rest of the room. We've found this to be a really useful way to capture lots of variety at this point of the day.

The space to be more creative

With two of us there on the day, we have more space and time to be creative. If we know the other photographer is up front during the ceremony capturing those key moments, the other photographer can look for a vantage point to take a stunning wide shot, or they can spend a little more time photographing the kids being cheeky in the corner. We also love to get a bit competitive with each other and set challenges such as, who can get the most fun dance-floor shot or who can get the most food-magazine-worthy picture of dessert.

Ultimately it's up to you

I always recommend having two photographers with guest numbers over 80. I've done it for years and it just seems to work. We know how to be discreet and you will never feel overwhelmed by us and our cameras. Here are some recent 2024 weddings that have been shot by myself and one of my trusty second photographers:

Rachel & Todd in Kent, Louise & Ed in Hampshire, Katy & Will in London, JoJo & Ben & Yasmeen & Ed in Kent
